The Maryland State QuarterThe Maryland quarter depicts the dome of the historic Maryland Statehouse, a building that dates back to 1772. The Statehouse hosts the country's largest wooden dome built without nails. It is also the oldest state capital building in the country that is still in use by the legislature. The Maryland Statehouse is embedded in this country's history. From 1783 to 1784 it served as the first peace-time capital of the United States. The Treaty of Paris was also signed here putting an "official" end to the Revolutionary War. Oak clusters, representing the official state tree, and a state nickname, "The Old Line State." complete the design for the Maryland State Quarter.
