The song, "Massachusetts (Because of You Our Land is Free)", words and music by Bernard Davidson, was adopted by the General Court as the official patriotic song of the Commonwealth on October 23, 1989.

Section 31. Patriotic song of commonwealth The song "Massachusetts (Because of You Our Land Is Free)", words and music by Bernard Davidson, shall be the patriotic song of the commonwealth.
