This elevation map of New York illustrates the number of feet or meters the state
rises above sea level. As you can see, much of New York resides at more than 500 feet above sea level. From sea
level, at the Atlantic Ocean and Long Island Sound, the land rises in the Appalachian and Adirondack
Mountains. Lower elevations prevail along the Hudson, the Mohawk, and the St. Lawrence Rivers, Lake Ontario,
and Long Island Sound.
The highest point in the state is
Mount Marcy
in the Macintyre Range of the Adirondack Mountains in northern New York. It rises 5,344 feet above sea level.
